More info on the Bitis Hybrids

It should be mentioned that there was another litter of F2’s produced the same year By Michael Bishop in Texas .  During the time both Michael’s female and ours was gravid, we stayed in touch and shared updates.  Michael also had a tremendously unique litter of these babies, but we’re unsure if he ever offered any for sale.  We’re also unsure of the lineage from which his litter extended.  In any event, it was definitely an exciting time for both of us as enthusiasts of these species.

There has been much debate over the morality of hybrid breeding and how it affects the gene pool in captivity for future breeding.  We understand that there are those who feel that hybrids destroy the integrity of future breeding projects for the pure species involved.  However, as we have in the past, we will certainly defend our breedings if need be.  This is the only hybrid project that interests us.  And due to the fact that many WC hybrids of these species are imported every year, it leads us to believe that obviously these breedings are happening more frequently in the wild than once thought.

We currently own one of the nicest female crosses we’ve ever seen (pictured below).  We didn’t produce her from our animals, and neither did anyone else.  She was born from a gravid WC pure rhino female which gave birth in captivity.
